GPCi for Oct 10th 2009 release at the LCBO

Italy (Veneto)
2006 ZIRONDA AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA - $36.95
GPCi
- An Amarone for a relatively cheaper than usual price (most Amarones are more than $50 these days. some reach the $70+ price point). I find the description very tempting to try one bottle.

Italy (Tuscany)
2005 IL GRIGIO DA SAN FELICE CHIANTI CLASSICO RISERVA - $28.95
WS=90
GPCi - I had their 1985 which was outstanding. It's not a cheap Chianti, but definitley worth the price. It can be cellared for 8-10 years if not more.

2006 TREROSE VINO NOBILE DI MONTEPULCIANO - $24.95
GPCi
- A great vintage in that area (RP gave the vintage 96!) and I'm a sucker for these wines, so I'd buy 2-4 bottles.

2004 FATTOI BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO - $38.95
WS=90 ; Drink now through 2015.
GPCi - A Brunello from 2004 with such review for less than $40 seems like a "typo" mistake. Most Brunello from that year are at the $60-$70 price range.

2006 CASTELLO DI NIPOZZANO MORMORETO - $29.95
GPCi
- I had several previous vintages from this wine (two from which in Tuscany) and it was always very rewarding. Not cheap. I'd buy this wine for a special get together. Very food friendly.

2005 COLLAZZI - $46.95
WS=92 ; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
GPCi - I love the Italian version to a Bordeaux blend. Expect a lot in the bottle. however, if I need to spend such an amount on a bottle of wine, I would go with the Spanish 2005 PESQUERA RESERVA (see below).

2007 VOLPAIA CITTO - $13.95
a blend of Sangiovese with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon
GPCi - Great vintage for what seems a nice Italian wine for the right price.

Canada (BC)
2007 INNISKILLIN DISCOVERY SERIES MALBEC - $23.95
GPCi
- Now a Canadian Malbec, that's something worth trying. We have all heard the great superlatives of the 2007 Canadian vintage. I would definitely buy 1 bottle.

US (Central Coast)
2008 CLAYHOUSE ADOBE WHITE - $16.95

22% Viognier, 18% Sauvignon Blanc, 17% Grenache Blanc, 16% Roussanne, 6% Chardonnay, 5% Chenin Blanc, and 16% Princess.
GPCi - The so many white grapes varieties. Bt the way, the Princess grape (in case you're wondering) is a white seedless grape. The berry size is generally larger than a Thompson Seedless. The Princess has a slight Muscat flavor and eats extremely well.
John M - this one is for you to try.

Chile (Limari Valley)
2008 CASA TAMAYA RESERVE SYRAH - $13.95 (MUST TRY!!!)
GPCi
- I had a few Casa Tamaya before. I like their wines for their QPR. For $14 it doesn't get any better than this for Syrah. I'd buy 3-12 bottles.

Australia (Barossa)
2006 ST. HALLETT BLACKWELL SHIRAZ - $29.95

JH=96 ; until 2026
GPCi - If you're looking for a very good Australian Shiraz from a producer that deliver a constant high quality wines, that's the one for you. The fact that it can be cellared for such a long time, makes the price worthwhile. Buy 2-6 bottles.

Portugal
2006 ALIANÇA PARTICULAR - $13.95
GPCi
- I haven't tried too many wines from Portugal. From the Vintages description and for the price, I would say it is a safe bet.

Spain (Ribera del Duero)
2006 BODEGAS ALEJANDRO FERNANDEZ TINTO PESQUERA CRIANZA - $29.95

IWC=92+
2005 BODEGAS ALEJANDRO FERNANDEZ TINTO PESQUERA RESERVA - $47.95
IWC=93+
GPCi - one of my favorite wines from Ribera del Duero. If you have allocated up to $100 for wine this release, I would buy 2 bottles of the 2005 PESQUERA RESERVA and that's it. Yes, it's that good.

Spain (Penedes)
2004 MIGUEL TORRES MAS LA PLANA CABERNET SAUVIGNON - $44.95
www.wine-pages.com = 91
GPCi - Had the 99' and the 01' and enjoyed them tremendously. 2004 is yet another great vintage. This wine can be cellared for 8+ years. Expect a nice, round, mouthfilling Cabernet Sauv.
