GPCi for March 14th 2009 release at the LCBO
These difficult economical days call for a carefully selected wines' buy with a cash-flow approach in mind. Even if there are $40+ wines with great cellaring potential wines out there, now isn't the right time to spend this money.
Australia
2006 JUNIPER CROSSING CHARDONNAY - $18.95
www.winefront.com.au = 91
GPCi - seems like a good Chardonnay from Margaret River, Western Australia. I find the wines from that region very unique and satisfying.
2007 WEST CAPE HOWE SAUVIGNON BLANC - $19.95
JH=94
GPCi - A generous review by James Halliday and a fair price for such quality.
Will be a great companion for either see food or cheese fondue.
2005 LEASINGHAM BIN 61 SHIRAZ - $25.95
JH=95
GPCi - 2005 was an excellent vintage and if you're looking for an interesting Shiraz Bin 61 by Leasingham, is a very good choice.
France - Bordeaux
2005 CHÂTEAU ROUSSET GRANDE RÉSERVE - $19.95
GPCi - from the Côtes de Bourg region in Bordeaux (right bank, north to St. Emilion). Expect most of this blend to be Merlot based. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the 2005 vintage of Bordeaux without emptying your pockets.
Germany - Rheingau
1995 BALTHASAR RESS RIESLING KABINETT - $19.00 (MUST TRY!!!)
GPCi - this Riesling as well as the next one seems to be a "must buy" for me. I would serve it chilled as a first wine of the dinner.
1987 SCHLOSS REINHARTSHAUSEN RIESLING KABINETT - $16.95 (MUST TRY!!!)
GPCi - there aren't many opportunities beside Germany to buy a 22 years old wine for $17. same recommendations as above. buy buy buy!
Spain - Calatayud
2006 BODEGAS ATECA ATTECA OLD VINES - $22.95 (MUST TRY)
JM=91
GPCi - From 80-120 years old vines. I had this wine in Calatayud Spain. it's a great QPR Garnacha. Expect a relatively sweet Garnacha with black layers of great flavors.
Israel
2006 YARDEN VIOGNIER - $29.95
DR=91
GPCi - I have tried this Viognier and think it's excellent, but I think it's too expensive, and as I stated in the beginning of this blog, these days, it's a skip for me.
